Chapter 7

Evan decided to tell the butler to get ready to go out.
All I have to do is go.
This is great.

‘Well, just because Evan’s going, doesn’t mean I can’t make money.’

On the contrary, I thought it would be better to just follow along and bury it quietly.

Evan shut himself in the library, saying he had something to study.

No, it’s been a while since he back came from the academy, and now he’s been going to the library again…

‘This is why Laria and Evan couldn’t be a great couple, they barely see each other.’

I haven’t seen him since breakfast, so I’ve been having a peaceful day like before.

But that afternoon, a hundred luxury handkerchiefs were delivered under my name.

“This is the handkerchief you have ordered.”

There are a hundred pairs, but each was a different type of luxurious handkerchief, which looked quite expensive.

“I wish I had received the money spent on it instead…”

I felt the pressure to throw up blood as soon as I had received it, but I was grateful enough.

So, I decided to go and thank Duke Icard in person.

The handkerchief he gave me a few days ago was clean as if it had not yet been vomited blood on, so I took it to return to him.

‘But I don’t want to just give him this.’

I asked Lisa to give me a card.
Then, I worked quite hard in making the card and headed to Duke Icard.

It was easy to find him because he is locked up in his office.

knock, knock.

“Father, this is Laria.”

I knocked on the office door and waited a moment.

“Are you busy? I have something to tell you.”

“Come in.”

His low voice resounded shortly, I quickly opened the door and entered.

Duke Icard sat at his desk, looking at the documents in a picturesque position.

‘Wow, he looks so much like Evan.
Sitting in a straight posture with a scary expression that is exactly the same as Evan last night.’

“Are you busy?”

“Yes.”

Duke Icard answered without any hesitation.

“I have to do some work beforehand to take a day off in such a hurry.”

Where is he going? Why would he take a day off?

Well, It is none of my business.

I’m sure he’s plotting something that is faithfully parallel to his role.

In fact, he is extremely busy.
Since the Duchess passed away, Picard’s office had been famous for not being extinguished until dawn every night.

“I got the handkerchief you sent me.
Thank you very much.”

I bowed politely and handed over the card with the handkerchief he gave me yesterday.

“I’ll give this back to you.
I made the card.”

“Really?”

Duke Icard opened my card on the spot.

There was not much content.
It was a stereotypical gesture saying thank you to him for his gift and wishing him well in the future.
What was a little unusual was that I drew a little graffiti-like painting next to it.

For some reason, the card looked so empty that she showed sincerity.

Originally, painting was more efficient than writing when it was hard to fill the space.

“What is this?”

Duke Icard frowned at my drawing.

“Have you drawn three animal cubs?”

I can’t believe this.

“Oh, no…”

I had rattled my fingers.

“Um, this is father, this is Evan, and this is me.
Three people who get along.”

Don’t tell me I’m that bad at drawing…?

There was a way to gloss over things at times like this.

“Cough.”

“Cough, cough.”

Because I threw up a lot of blood after lunch earlier, it seemed like there was no more blood to vomit anymore.

‘I might be questioned.’

I couldn’t throw up the blood since it wasn’t coming out, so I put my hand on my forehead and staggered for a while.

“I’m sorry, Father.
I felt dizzy for a moment.”

He quickly changed the subject by blinking his round eyes.

“Then I’ll be on my way…”

“What?”

“You seem busy, too.”

As I crept back, Duke Icard’s eyebrows rose slightly.

“Are you done talking?”

“Yes.”

“Really?”

“…Yes.”

“Is that so?”

I felt like I shouldn’t have answered ‘yes’ again.

“Did you forget something because you were dizzy?”

I pondered for a moment.

I said thank you and returned the handkerchief.
So what’s left must be…

“…Sorry for not being able to draw?”

He is mean and tricky, but the weak had no choice but to bow to the stronger ones.

“I won’t draw from now on…”

“This.”

I nearly hiccupped when I saw the Duke’s brow bulging.

“It’s a picture of three people getting along.”

“…Yes.”

“You said you wanted to get along well, didn’t you?”

Is that so?

I rolled my eyes quickly.

“You still can’t think of anything?”

He let go of his pen and sighed.

“Didn’t you say you wanted to go on a picnic together?”

No way.

“I didn’t know it was just two kids talking with each other.”

He had a pile of papers in front of him.

I’ve seen ’em.
You’re not taking a day off, are you…

“Daddy!”

I see! That’s it!

As soon as I noticed, I said quickly.

“I forgot because I felt so dizzy and nauseous.
Actually, I had one more thing to tell you.”

“Hmm?”

“In two days, Evan and I are going to a horse race.”

“Yes.”

He answered quickly.

His slightly wrinkled brow relaxed gently.

“I want to go with you, too!”

The beginning was expressed emptily, but I did my best because I thought the end would come if I was caught.

“I’m really looking forward to going on a picnic together.
Daddy, I know that you’re busy, but could you come with me?”

When I asked him desperately with my hands together, he cleared his throat loudly.

“All right.”

He picked up his pen again.

“I’m not very interested in horse racing, but I guess it can’t be helped because a sick kid asked me to.”

“Yay, thank you!”

I laughed my head off.

“Father is coming with us.
This is great.”

“What a fuss.”

“Really true…Cough, cough.”

This time, real blood poured out.

‘The timing’s good.’

The time limit had to be appealed because I had not been loved at all.

I looked at him and coughed more quickly, but there was no more blood.

I’m recovering.

The amount of blood is decreasing.

“Well, I better go.”

I quickly got out of the office in fear of being caught with a small amount of blood.

I couldn’t see Evan all day and the next day because he was cooped up in the library.

Evan came in the middle of the night when I was already asleep and went out before I woke up.
I didn’t know he had such a hobby.

‘It was like we weren’t married at all.’

We didn’t get to eat anything together, other than the first breakfast.

He wanted to go to the horse racing event with me, so I was wondering if he liked it, but I didn’t think so.

“I really wanted to go to a horse racing event.
Are you excited?”

Anyway, it isn’t until the morning when we all left for the horse racing event that I could see Evan’s face properly.

Evan’s face was a little dry, and as soon as he got in the carriage, he began to doze off.

‘I guess you didn’t even want to go horse racing.
It seems like you prefer the library.’

I couldn’t possibly know that.

Well, in the end, he’ll grow up to be an emotionless kid who doesn’t understand an average person.

While Evan leaned against the window, I threw up one more round of blood.

‘All right.
I don’t throw up much blood these days, but this was very timely.’

The cost-effectiveness is good when blood would be seen in front of the Duke as much as possible.
The Duke looked at me with unemotional red eyes and turned his eyes to the window.
