Chapter 106 – Letter From Home

Lydia sipped on some hot tea, her feeble legs covered in warm blankets.
Since she had almost immediately been kicked out of Gareth’s estate not long after the incident, her body didn’t have the chance to fully recover from the trauma of the miscarriage she had forced onto herself with medicine.
To make matters worse, she had to constantly be on guard so that the king couldn’t find out where she was.
Nevertheless, she had successfully arrived at Logan’s estate without a hitch and had been doing her best to recover ever since then.

Lydia took another sip of hot tea when the door suddenly burst open and Logan came running in.

“Did the relocation of the remaining troops go well?” she asked.

Logan nodded, to which Lydia’s devilish eyes shined.
She showed a satisfied smile as she realized that her plan was coming along smoothly.
There was nothing more stupid than keeping all of Logan’s troops and weapons in one place, since that would only increase the king’s suspicions before the war even started.

Halbert had been sending out more spies than usual to check on his cousins’ movements, and Lydia had dispersed his forces to two different places for an effective siege on the capital.
Another reason for separating the troops was to prevent Halbert from distrusting Logan.
There were only 140 knights stationed at the estate, as reported to the king.
Lydia had ordered the troops to move to Viscount Nar’s estate, as they were an alley, as well as another cousin, who held hands with them.
They were to serve as Lydia and Logan’s shield, allowing them to argue that the troops had nothing to do with them if anything were to go wrong.

Lydia slowly drank her tea and raised the corners of her lips when she realized the beverage tasted even better now.

Logan, who had been watching Lydia in silence, asked, “How are you feeling, Lydia?”

“I’m getting better.”

To Lydia’s surprise, Logan grinned and began to tease her.
“It seems that you’re not as cunning as you used to be.
You were so confident about getting Gareth to side with us, yet the only thing you gained was his word to remain neutral.
If you’d listened to me, you wouldn’t have had to suffer like this.”

Lydia lost her temper in an instant.
What had happened back at Gareth’s estate was something she did not want to think about again.
“You should know what I achieved is a great thing, Logan.
If it wasn’t for me, Gareth wouldn’t even have promised neutrality.”

“So, it wasn’t Elena who ruined your plan? I guess you don’t have much going for you anymore.”

Lydia became distraught. ‘What is this useless idiot saying? Is he trying to tell me that wench is better off than me?’ Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself down and sternly said, “Logan, watch your mouth.
I’m the one who brought you time to prepare for battle and helped you get ready to become the next king.
Don’t forget that.”

Logan’s expression violently distorted at Lydia’s words.
Although they were true, listening to them exasperated him. ‘How dare a woman act so arrogant…’ Crumpling his face, Logan spat out, “I was the only one willing to offer you a place of refuge.”

Lydia bit her lips which were still purplish from not having fully recovered yet.
She could tell that Logan already thought of himself as the king, since he was starting to ignore her, and knew that he would eventually end up abandoning her just like Halbert did.
That was why she had already started planning what she was going to do next. ‘Oh, Logan.
You’re such a foolish man…’ she thought, then whispered in a soft voice, “You’re right.
I forgot about that for a moment.
Thank you for letting me stay here, Logan, my dear cousin.”

Logan remained silent, but awkwardly ran a hand through his hair as if he felt guilty about making a sarcastic remark.

Lydia looked up at him with a bright smile and added, “By the way, Elena was indeed a perfect woman; enough to make even me jealous.” At the mention of Elena’s name, Lydia could see Logan’s eyes grow delirious. ‘He has definitely gone insane for her…’ she noted.
It was difficult to even explain his actions as being single-minded.
