“Drip, drip.”

In the darkness, Zheng Wei heard the sound of water drops.
The sound came and went, echoing around him.
He wanted to find the source of the sound, but all around him was pitch black, and he couldn’t see anything.

“Hello, is anyone there?” Zheng Wei groped forward in the darkness, his voice echoing in the blackness.

“Hello?” Zheng Wei kept calling out, but no one answered him.
He seemed to be alone, trapped in this darkness.
The boundless darkness made Zheng Wei panic, and he ran forward desperately, trying to get rid of everything.

But even when Zheng Wei was exhausted, his surroundings were still dark.
He leaned against the wall, panting, almost despairing.

At this moment, he suddenly noticed a flash of white light ahead, and a figure moving in the light.

“Hello! Hello!” The light made Zheng Wei ecstatic, and he shouted and waved his arms in the direction of the light, “Save me!”

The figure seemed to hear his plea, hesitated for a moment, then walked through the light and slowly towards him.

Zheng Wei also forced himself to walk toward the figure.
The distance between the two of them got closer and closer, and the light on the figure gradually dissipated.
Zheng Wei saw a pair of familiar icy blue eyes.

Quiet, cold, like the winter lake.

Zheng Wei let out a startled cry and sat up in bed.
He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and placed one hand on his chest.
His heart was still racing from the dream, and he felt almost suffocated.

“Ding Dong.”

The sound of the doorbell suddenly startled Zheng Wei, bringing him back to reality.

He glanced at the clock on his bedside table, it was already 7 o’clock in the morning.

“Good morning, Zheng.” Allen, a tall black man, pushed open the door and grinned at Zheng Wei, revealing a row of neatly arranged teeth.

“My friend, are you ready to start our spring break trip?”

[Allen, a 22-year-old M-country man, 6 feet 2 inches tall, 260 pounds, a freshman at K Law School, and the school’s football cornerback.]

The basic information of this person appeared in Zheng Wei’s mind.

“Oh, Allen, good morning.” Zheng Wei tried to force a smile, making himself look less distant.
“I’m ready, let me change my clothes first.”

“Sure, do you need help with your luggage?” Despite his burly appearance, Allen was very friendly.
He wore a pair of glasses, spoke gently, and behaved politely.

“No, no thanks.
I’ve already packed, let me go get it,” Zheng Wei shook his head and declined Allen’s offer.

“Okay.” Seeing Zheng Wei being so polite, Allen looked a bit puzzled.
But he didn’t say anything, just took a step back to give Zheng Wei enough space.

According to the system’s settings for Zheng Wei, he and Allen were supposed to be childhood friends.
However, Zheng Wei’s current behavior was still quite distant from being a good friend, which made others feel uneasy.

But Zheng Wei couldn’t help it.
He didn’t have the talent for acting, nor was he outgoing.
For him, Allen was just a stranger he had just met.

Perhaps next time when the system selects a task taker, it should add an item for outstanding acting skills.
Zheng Wei silently complained in his heart.

“Hey, Zheng, do you have something hidden in your room?” At this moment, a blonde head popped up behind him.

“Come on, bro, spill the beans.” The blonde-haired person blinked at Zheng Wei, looking mischievous.

[Martin, 20 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 220 pounds, a freshman in K Photography Department, and the captain of the school’s football team.]

Martin was a handsome blonde, the charming “bad boy” type that every high school had.
He was outgoing and sociable, the kind of party star who never let the conversation run dry.

“Good morning, Martin.” Martin’s appearance broke the awkwardness, and Zheng Wei greeted him before making an excuse to leave.

“You guys go to the car first, I’ll go get the luggage and join you in a bit.” After speaking, Zheng Wei hurriedly walked into the room.

“Let me help you!” Martin shouted and wanted to follow him in, but he was stopped by Allen.

“Don’t  you think something’s off with Zheng today?” Allen asked Martin in a low voice, while his eyes looked towards the room.

“What’s wrong with him?” Martin didn’t feel anything.
“Isn’t Zheng always like this? It’s called Oriental restraint, right?”

“No, it’s different.” Allen shook his head and furrowed his brows.
He carefully recalled Zheng Wei’s appearance in his memory but found that there was only a symbol with labels in his mind.

“Don’t overthink it, my bro.” Martin slapped Allen’s shoulder in a carefree manner.

“Maybe he just broke up, maybe something happened, or maybe he’s just not feeling well.
Don’t think too much.
If you’re really worried, you can talk to him when we get there.”

Martin’s words made sense, so Allen had to temporarily set aside his doubts.

Zheng Wei was unaware that Allen and Martin were discussing him.
He walked into the bedroom, quickly changed his clothes, picked up his luggage, and grabbed the metal whistle that he had packed last night.

This was a reward that the system had mentioned, a gathering whistle that could call for companions.
The gray rope and silver body of the whistle looked no different from an ordinary whistle.

Zheng Wei looked at the whistle lying in his palm, thought for a moment, and hung it around his neck.

He put the whistle inside his T-shirt and covered it with his clothes.
The cold whistle was tightly pressed against his chest, which made him feel a little more at ease.

Zheng Wei didn’t have much luggage, just a travel bag.
He walked out carrying his bag and found Martin and Allen still standing at the door.

“You don’t have to wait for me here.
You can go ahead,” Zheng Wei tried to play the role of a good friend, although it wasn’t very successful.

“What are you talking about? We would never leave a friend behind,” Martin put his arm around Zheng Wei’s shoulder and gave him a firm pat on the back.

Then he turned to look at Allen and winked, “Right, Allen?”

“Yes, yes,” Allen looked at Martin and shook his head helplessly, “Let’s hurry up, the ladies must be getting impatient.”
