Data.82 – Old bowman, Overcoming Difficulty

Mister Yu only worked on one order from a player at a time.
He could accept multiple orders, but would only start the next one after finishing the previous order.

I had asked him to repair 4 pieces of equipment, and to evolve 2 pieces of equipment.
And then I made an additional order after that.
As the Windcloud set was rare, and due to the damage, it would take half a day to repair and nearly a day to evolve.

4 x 12 hours = 48 hours = 2 days, 3 x 24 hours = 72 hours = 3 days.
So that would take 5 days in all.

And the Peach of Immortality could make him finish one piece of equipment immediately.
As evolution was what took the longest, that meant I could save a whole day.
It had been vaguely on the back of my mind, but the system was quite simple.
And so once again, I was troubled over whether I should use it or not.

If it was just one day, it seemed like a waste.
So maybe I shouldn’t use it?
But then again, maybe it was because it was just 1 day that I could use it without worrying too much?
Though, if it’s rare, then wouldn’t it be best to save it?
The holy maiden did say that there were other ways to acquire them.
It wasn’t only a bonus for repairing a lot of equipment.

Hmm.
I will…use it!
It was possible that in the future I would have to ask him to repair and evolve something that was really rare.
But when that happened, I could search for another peach.
As the last three trials felt a lot like mini games, there was a part of me that wanted to hurry up and return to boss battles and dungeons.
While playing in ways that were efficient was one of the spices of games, it was also good to just play the way you want at the moment.

And so I handed the heavenly maiden the Peach of Immortality so that she could give it to Mister Yu, who was working in the back.
Now the last thing I ordered, the Windcloud Tabi, would finish evolving, and all of the requests would be finished.

“Master! Someone has gifted you a Peach of Immortality!”

After she disappeared into the back of the workshop, I heard an indescribable shout from Mister Yu.
Wa-was he alright? That’s supposed to be a shout of joy…right?
As I stood there confused, the heavenly maiden returned smiling.

“Now, all of your orders are complete! You can take your equipment now!”

They were immediately sent to my item box.
I finally got them back.
The Windcloud set!
I thanked her and left the worksop.

It was time to check them out…!

That being said, the only things that would be different were the Windcloud Bow, Windcloud Haori, and Windcloud Tabi.
The others were now as good as new, but their abilities were the same.
So I only needed to check the equipment that had evolved.
First…was the bow!

◆ Blackwind Dark Cloud Bow
Type: Two-handed weapon(Bow)
Attack: 140
Range: 100
Weapon Charge Attack: Arrow Storm

Arrow Storm
Dark clouds are unleashed from the area around the bow, and arrows will fall like violent rain.
Cool down: 5 minutes.

It…was black now…!
The Windcloud Bow had been based on such calming imagery as clouds and wind.
But now it was much darker.
The black made the entire weapon look sleeker, and it was definitely cooler now.
And while it was dark, it did not look evil.
Dark clouds were merely another natural phenomenon, and there was no malice in it.
Well, maybe the people who got wet when it rained would disagree…

With 100 Attack and 80 Range, its total was 180, which meant it had gone up 60 points through evolution…
Combined with the abilities of the charge attack, it was a great upgrade.
I was probably the happiest about the cool down being the same.
Had it been increased, it would have affected my combat rhythm.

When it came to attack ability, the combination charge attack, ‘Meteor Bow’ had severe demerits.
And so I relied on Bow Shower, which was now Arrow Storm, because it could be used more casually.

Still…it really was black.
The kind that excited the child in me.
I wanted to keep looking at it, but I set it aside for now.
There was still other equipment that was waiting for me.
Next was the torso equipment, the haori!

◆ Windcloud Battle Haori

Type: Torso(Haori)
Defense: 80
Magic Defense: 80
Weapon Skill: Windcloud Blast, Turtle Formation

Windcloud Blast
Create a powerful blast of wind in a specific direction.

Turtle Formation
Auto-activates by consuming MP whenever you take physical damage.
Reduces physical damage by 30%.

This…it now looked like the kind of haori that a general would wear!
It continued to have the blue sky and white cloud pattern from the Windcloud Haori, but now there was gold lining and black added to the design which made it look more like you were ready for battle.

Previously, it had looked closer to ordinary clothing.
That meant it was comfortable and relaxing, but this one looked like it would help keep me motivated.
That being said, it didn’t feel any heavier than before.
So it had also inherited the lightness as well.

It had 45 Defense and 75 Magic Defense, so the evolution had greatly raised its defense ability.
And this showed in the added skill as well.

Turtle Formation… An auto-skill.
Garbow’s Metal Body had a reduction rate of 10%, so it was quite impressive.
However, unlike Garbow, who could use it as many times as needed, this one used MP.
In a way, you could say that it was my MP gauge that was taking damage.
Because it would reduce even the smallest amount of damage from attacks, it was possible that I might lose all of my MP.

But since you could turn the skill on and off, I would have the option of not using it when fighting weaker enemies.
Though, it then wouldn’t activate if I was ambushed by a powerful enemy out of nowhere.
So there were still disadvantages…

And lastly, there was the equipment for my feet.
The tabi.

◆ Sheep Cloudcrossing Tabi
Type: Feet(tabi)
Defense: 20
Speed: 90

Weapon Skill: Floating Cloud Herd

Floating Cloud Herd
Creates 9 clouds that can be ridden at once.
Can be activated 3 times in an hour.
Disappears after 5 minutes.

At a glance, it didn’t look too different.
There was fur on the outer rim, and that was all.
The big difference was inside.
After putting them on, your feet were enveloped in its softness, and it was incredibly comfortable…!
It was like the embrace of a wooly sheep!

And it wasn’t just nice to the touch.
This wool was able to absorb impact as well.
So when I jumped, the impact to my legs was weaker than before.
And as far as its status went, the defense had also gone up.
It used to be 0 Defense and 80 Speed.
So in combination with the haori, my defenses seemed very high now.

As for the skill, this was also much better than before.
I could create 9 clouds like a real herd.
However, the rules meant they absolutely had to be close together like a herd.
You could put them in a line of varying heights in order to create stairs, for instance.
But as long as they were close together, you had freedom in how they were placed.

Up until now, I could only make 3 in one hour, so that meant I could only jump between them and dodge attacks for a very limited amount of time.
However, with 9, activating it once would be more than enough to hop around and escape.
It would be much easier to use now.

Lastly, I decided to check my status after equipping everything.

Before I knew it, Bow Arts had risen from VI to VII.
Now my Attack was +70 and my Range was +70 when equipping the bow.
When adding up the numbers from equipment and skills, my total Range was 600 meters.
I have come a long way…

I also had a large variety of skills now, and my equipment was very powerful compared to the beginner set.
There were also weapons skills and charge attacks that didn’t appear on my status, which really made me feel how much I had grown.
That being said, I was still only a little bit higher than the middle when it came to NSO players.
I wasn’t even a 3rd.
And my history with VR games was still short.

In order to get stronger, what I needed to do now was to take on the labyrinths.
And so my next challenge was the Gemini labyrinth…!
