Chapter One (Reborn in the Last Days)

July 15, 2035.

Today was supposed to be a lively weekend holiday, but apart from the traffic on the streets of City N, few pedestrians were walking by.
Even if there were, they were all swearing and complaining.

“What the fuck is with this weather!?!” Many of them swore as they walked while holding up their umbrellas.

It’s no wonder that this is the case- not only in N city, but also in all parts of the country.
The weather has changed abnormally.
In mid-July, the temperature has reached almost fifty degrees.
In such a hot day, who wouldn’t be shouting abuses? Going out to stroll in the sun that can kill people.

Sitting inside a noodle restaurant, Wu Qingyuan ate the noodles with rich broth while staring at the road that looked like it was going to melt while being exposed to the sun and the complaining passers-by, in a solemn mood.

He knew that this kind of hot weather would not last long, and it would cool down in a few months.
The weather during autumn would cover the world with heavy snow, and this would incur lively discussions and reports on TV news and on the internet.

The strange weather has aroused everyone’s curiosity, but nobody was aware that all this was a harbinger of the end of the world.

Indeed, this world will enter a hell-like end of the world in a few months.
The current hot climate ends and the temperature would begin to cool.
Then continuous, heavy snowfall would bring an unknown virus, and then nearly half of Earth’s human beings would’ve been infected.
The infection caused them to become the cannibal monster in Resident Evil on TV.

Zombies.

All of this knowledge is  incredible, but also unbelievable- only he knew that this was true for this was something he had already experienced.

He can still clearly remember everything that happened in his previous life, as well as the abilities that still exists in his body, which proved that he was reborn to the time before the end of the world broke out.

“Boss, another bowl of beef noodles!”

Pushing the empty bowl in front of him aside, Wu Qingyuan beckoned the owner and continued to order another bowl of noodles.
Although he is already full, he can’t help but still want to eat after ten years of starvation in the last days.

In the last days of his life, his life was actually better than that of many people, because not only was he an awakened person with dual elements of wood and space- capable of storing items and, ripening plants- but he also had training as a mercenary before the end of the world.
When he was in the base- he wasn’t a high-level person, but he was an awakened person with a bit of identity.

But noodles made of this kind of clean white noodles, and beef cooked in fragrant soup- in the late end of the world, let alone ordinary people, even those with supernatural powers like him would not dare to think about it, this kind of “high-end food” only the leader of the base and the people of high status can enjoy it.

He almost forgot the taste of the most common food before the end of the world.

Wu Qingyuan ate the last bowl of beef noodles with vigor, not caring about his image.
Wu Qingyuan put down his chopsticks, took out the money and settled the account, then took out his mobile phone and made a call.

“Hey, it’s Qingyuan.
Are you back from your business trip? Auntie was worried about missing you.
Why did the company send you on a business trip on such a hot day? When you went abroad- I heard that there was an earthquake in country M a few days ago.
Yes, I couldn’t get through when I called you, but I was worried to death.
Since you just came back- come to auntie’s house.
Auntie just made a pot of old duck soup today, your favorite…”

As soon as the number was dialed, the phone was connected quickly, and then a middle-aged woman’s chattering voice came from the other end of the phone, and immediately said a lot of caring words.

“I know, I’ll be there in a while, aunt, please call uncle back by the way, I just want to talk to you about the house…”

No longer listening to the nagging on the other end of the phone, Wu Qingyuan interrupted the voice on the other side, said what he needed to say directly, and then hung up the phone.

If he had heard these words on the phone before he was reborn, he would’ve been very moved.
After his parents died, only his aunt’s family cared about him,- but at this moment, his heart was not moved at all, because he knew that these words were all false.

His aunt’s family only cared about him because his parents left him a downtown house, and because he had a high-paying “job”- he would bring a lot of things to her house every time he came back from a trip, and he was generous with the red envelopes.

If his aunt’s family really cared about him, why do they only care about receiving red envelopes and gifts instead of asking how he is doing? They never ask if he ever was tired from working to make so much money.
And his life- alone with no friends around him.

It was not until after the end of the world that he worked so hard to protect his aunt’s family and risked his life to run out of the base to find food yet these people ruthlessly left him when his fever was the most critical time to awaken his abilities.
Only then did he know that they had been acting and that the relatives he had cared for were just a group of white-eyed wolves.
