”Take a seat and well begin right away. ” The guard spoke, gesturing for Layla to sit in a steel chair in the middle of the room.

Taking her seat, she watched as the guard grabbed three etheric tools from the small table a few feet away from the table she was sitting at.

”The first test will be a blood test. Please extend your arm. ” The guard brought an etheric tool that looked like a needle, but at the top there was some kinda reader on top.

He poked the needle into Laylas vein in her wrist and took some of Laylas blood, followed by a silent beep from the reader on top of the needle.

”It says you
e human, so you passed the first test. You still have two more. ” The guard pulled out the etheric tool from Laylas wrist and set it on the table in front of her.

I wouldve normally been caught immediately, but since Im Camillas daughter, Im able to manipulate blood to a very high level, which allowed me to change the properties of my blood to humans. Layla thought.

”The next test is to see if your healing ability is that of a human or not. ” The guard grabbed an etheric knife and slit a small cut on Laylas palm.

Crimson blood flowed from the wound, but the wound didn begin to close up, but stayed there slowly beginning its healing process, like how slow the healing ability of a human is.

30 minutes later,

The blood dried around Laylas wound as the guard watched her hand the entire 30 minutes, looking for any sign of supernatural regeneration.

”Alright, you have the human regeneration ability. ”

He took a tool from the table in front of Layla and hovered it over her wound as it lit up, and began to stimulate the regeneration ability of Layla, soon closing the wound while leaving not even a scar.

That was an easy test to pass as all I needed to do was slow down my regeneration ability to that of a human, but—watching the guard set the stimulation tool down on the table and pick up another tool— hat tool that stimulates the healing process must have been newly invented, since when I was last here, there was no such thing.

The guard grabbed a tool that looked like a fanny pack with a strap connecting both ends. ”The third test is the lie detector test. Well need you to stand up so we can put this on you. ”

”Okay. ” Layla stood up from her chair as the guard moved the chair from behind Layla and put the etheric tool on Laylas abdomen, where her Aether palace is.

Looking down, Layla looked at the tool. So it reads my Aether, which is connected to my soul, allowing it to read whether Im lying or not.

The etheric tool lit up with a sky blue color as Layla turned her head to look at the guard standing on the other side of the table, looking at her with seriousness in his eyes.

”First question: what city did you come from? ”

”I came from Rosenhayn. ”

On the little display of the etheric tool strapped to Laylas abdomen, it read the word ”True. ”

Im glad Camilla taught me how to manipulate Aether to a high level; otherwise I would be exposed by this etheric tool. Layla thought.

”Alright, next question: why were you alone? Shouldn you be with someone else? ”

”I was with my older brother, but when we were attacked by-by, ”—tears began to flow down Laylas cheeks, expressing that this was a sensitive topic— ”a vampire, h-he fought the vampire by himself in order for me to escape. ”

The tool once again displayed the word, [True].

”Im sure hes still alive out there. ” The guard said he was trying to give Layla hope.

”No, hes not; I-I saw the vampire dig her fangs into him before as I looked back while running away. ” Layla burst into tears as the guard grabbed a tissue and handed it to her.

As before, the tool displayed the word, [True].

”I see ”—rubbing his eyes to hide the fact that he was beginning to tear up— ”Im sorry for your loss. ”

”Thanks. ” Layla responded and blew her nose into the tissue.

Five minutes later, Layla was able to calm down, allowing the test to continue.

”Since you seem to have calmed down, Ill continue on with the next question. Have you ever killed a human or thought of doing so? ”

”No. ”

[True].

”Have you… ” The guard continued asking questions for an hour until he came to his last question.

”During the entirety of the test, have you lied or altered the tools response in order to hide that you were a vampire? ”

How did he know? Can he read my mind? No he can without a tool. Calm down, you must answer or otherwise itll raise suspicious. Layla thought.

”No. ” Nearly breaking her cover, Layla said with a straight face.

Layla looked at the tool, waiting for its answer, and when it displayed on the screen, she felt like a mountain of pressure was lifted off her shoulders. Seeing the single word, ”True, ” on the display, she felt relieved.

The only reason Id panic when I heard that question and felt the weight of a mountain lift off my shoulders must mean I regained some of my human emotions upon taking the form of a human, Layla thought.

The guard took off the lie detector tool and set it on the table in front of me as he said, ”Alright, thats the end of the test. Before you enter the city, well need to create an ID for you. ”

”I see. ”
